“Back-to-Back Wins, That’s What Champions Do” Omondi Leads Man United Fans to SportPesa Xperience Glory

Nairobi, Kenya — August 10, 2026 … “Back-to-back wins, that’s what champions do.” Those were the words of Eric Omondi after captaining Manchester United fans to a dramatic 5-4 penalty shootout win over Arsenal fans in the SportPesa Xperience rematch at Nyayo National Stadium on Sunday.

The victory extends United’s unbeaten run over their rivals to two matches, following their 3-2 win in the first leg back in June.

It was a rollercoaster of an afternoon. Comedian Jian combined with Yasin to give United an early lead against the run of play, before Arsenal fans hit back through Machwani and Telvin Paul to force the game to penalties. When the dust settled, it was United’s composure from twelve yards that made the difference, with Omondi himself stepping up to convert the winning kick.

Arsenal fans’ captain Useful Idioty didn’t hide his disappointment but was gracious in defeat. “We dominated large parts of that game and deserved more. Penalties can be cruel, but I’m proud of how we fought back. We’ll be ready for the next one,” he said.

For SportPesa CEO Captain Ronald Karauri, the result was almost beside the point. “Today was about giving our fans an experience that goes beyond the pitch. Whether you support Arsenal, Manchester United or you are a neutral, the fans walked out of the stadium having shared something unforgettable together. That’s what SportPesa Xperience is all about bringing fans closer to the game and closer to each other,” he said.

The occasion also doubled as a tribute to Kenyan football royalty, with Francis Onyiso and Dennis Oliech honoured for their careers Onyiso receiving a live goat from Omondi as a symbol of his standing in the game while Lawrence Olum, the only Kenyan to have won an MLS title, was also recognized.

Tens of thousands packed the stands, with hundreds of thousands more tuning in online, as the SportPesa Xperience continues to cement itself as one of Kenya’s most talked-about fan football events.
