LG Launches “Make Life Good” Reality Series Celebrating Community Impact and Ubuntu

LG Electronics East Africa has announced the upcoming launch of Make Life Good, a new original reality series developed in partnership with MultiChoice, a Canal+ company.

The show will premiere on 13 June on Maisha Magic East, offering a fresh, purpose-driven approach to storytelling that shifts away from traditional advertising and instead highlights real-life human impact made possible through technology.

Positioned around the themes of gratitude and Ubuntu—the African philosophy of shared humanity and compassion—the series focuses on how technology and kindness intersect to transform communities.

Reality TV with a Purpose-Driven Twist

Hosted by acclaimed television personality Jessica Nkosi, Make Life Good follows six well-known “Achievers” who collaborate with LG Electronics to deliver surprise thank-you gestures to organisations and community leaders supporting vulnerable groups across South Africa.

The featured Achievers include mountaineer Saray Khumalo, former football star William Okpara, entrepreneur and author Thandi Mavata, data and analytics executive Esther Munyi, Pan-African PR strategist Perpetual Kendi, and award-winning filmmaker Adze Ugah.

Each episode centres on a carefully planned, high-pressure 24-hour facility transformation, designed to address real operational challenges faced by community organisations and the people they serve.

Transforming Community Spaces Through Technology

At the heart of each makeover is LG’s latest suite of premium home and commercial technologies, deployed to improve efficiency, hygiene, and functionality in community-serving spaces.

Food preparation and kitchen facilities—such as those at LIV Lanseria and Botshabelo Babies Home—are upgraded with 635L InstaView™ Door-in-Door refrigerators and 14 Place QuadWash™ dishwashers with TrueSteam™, helping streamline large-scale feeding programmes.

Youth centres and skills development hubs, including the Bold Men Skills Program and The House Groups, are equipped with immersive digital solutions such as 77-inch LG OLED evo Smart TVs, 100-inch LG QNED evo AI QNED86 MiniLED 4K TVs, and high-performance soundbars to enhance learning, training, and entertainment experiences.

Meanwhile, sporting programmes such as the Kensington Secondary School soccer initiative benefit from heavy-duty laundry solutions, including LG’s 13Kg Front Loader with AI DD™ and Steam+™ technology, alongside LG Heat Pump Dryers, ensuring proper maintenance of sports kits for young athletes.

LG’s Vision: Technology That Serves Humanity

Phil Jung, CEO of LG Electronics Middle East and Africa Region, says the series reflects the company’s broader philosophy that technology should improve everyday life in meaningful ways.

“At LG, our ‘Life’s Good’ philosophy is built on the belief that technology should serve humanity, making our daily lives more convenient, connected, and meaningful. With Make Life Good, we wanted to move beyond product specifications and celebrate the authentic, emotional human stories of our region,” he said.

According to LG, the initiative also gives participating organisations a renewed opportunity to expand their reach and improve service delivery, removing operational constraints caused by inadequate infrastructure.

A Celebration of Ubuntu and Shared Humanity

MultiChoice has described the show as a form of “reality television with purpose,” rooted in values of compassion and collective upliftment.

“It’s reality TV with purpose. We see it as a celebration of compassion and the unique Mzansi belief that when one rises, they should thrive to lift others as well,” said Mbali Ntuli, GE Head of Unscripted Content at MultiChoice. “We are honoured to be at the centre of a project that is a reminder that even a small act of kindness can transform an entire community.”

Highlighting Unsung Changemakers Across Africa

LG Electronics East Africa President Donghun Lee emphasized the importance of elevating grassroots stories that often go unnoticed despite their significant impact.

“Across Africa, there are countless individuals and organisations doing extraordinary work every day, often without recognition. What makes Make Life Good special is that it shines a light on these stories and gives them a platform to inspire others,” he said.

The series also demonstrates how practical, well-integrated technology can ease operational burdens in community organisations, allowing them to focus more on service delivery and impact.

Marketing Perspective: Beyond Product Features

Jane Kariuki, Head of Marketing at LG Electronics East Africa, noted that the collaboration aims to highlight real-world impact rather than product specifications alone.

“Through this partnership with Maisha Magic and these inspiring changemakers, we are looking beyond product features to spotlight the real impact they are making in their communities. At the same time, we are demonstrating how smart technology can support and simplify the important work they do to create positive change every day,” she said.

Make Life Good will air on Maisha Magic East (DStv Channel 158) on Saturday, 13 June at 19:30 EAT. The series will also be broadcast on Maisha Magic Plus on 14 June at 20:00 EAT, bringing the inspiring stories of community transformation to a wider audience across the region.
