NYOTA Project Scam Alert: How to Stay Safe and Informed

The Office of the Government Spokesperson has cautioned Kenyans applying for the NYOTA Project to stay alert, following a surge in fake online pages targeting hopeful youth.

In a statement issued on Monday, August 1, the office stressed that all information regarding the NYOTA Project—including updates on Business Support, Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL), and On-the-Job Experience—will only be shared through official channels.

“ALERT: NYOTA Project Applicants Beware! All updates on business support, RPL, and on-the-job experience will only be shared via the official NYOTA website and verified social media pages,” the statement read.

The warning follows a sharp spike in applications to the government-sponsored scheme that earns a KSh6,000 monthly stipend for successful applicants..

With more interest in the scheme increasing by the day, imposter pages have started posing as official communication, putting unsuspecting applicants at risk.

The NYOTA Project confirmed a growing wave of online fraud targeting applicants. The team assured that the sole official news, such as application updates and upcoming developments, will be posted on the authentic website and social media sites of the project.

NYOTA further clarified that the program does not charge any fees for services, warning applicants to ignore anyone asking for payment.

To keep applicants informed, the project will make use of the mobile phone numbers provided upon registration to send tailored updates.

The project urged applicants to stay alert and avoid sharing personal details on unverified sites.

“We encourage youth to visit the project office or their nearest sub-county youth office for any information relating to the Project,” the NYOTA team said. “You can also reach out to us through the toll-free line 0800222221 and our official social media pages.”
