The 5-month training program seeks to offer 100 scholarships to youth between 18-30 years and provide training in animation, software development, artificial intelligence and data science.Family Bank, through the Family Group Foundation, has set aside KES 5 million in partnership with Ada Labs Africa to provideICT skills to 100 youthacross the country.
The five-month-long training program seeks to provide skills development in animation, software development, artificial intelligence and data science inorder to transform talents into employable skills and provide wealth creation opportunities.
“We believe that through this partnership with Ada Labs, we can build a cadre of tech-enabled youth that will be equipped for the next generation of work that will be anchored upon tech-driven economies.Our focus is to fill the skills and employment gaps in different sectors, offer capacity building platforms to equip our youth in various skills as we grow wealth creation opportunities and build sustainable communities through strategic partnerships, under our Shared Value Initiatives,” said Family Bank Chief Executive Officer Rebecca Mbithi.
The training will be implemented through three to four months of practical boot camps in partnership with Ada Labs vehicles that includes Ada Animation through its Animation boot camp, ArtificialIntelligence Center of Excellence(AICE) through its AICE Data Scientists Program and Ada Tech, via its Software Development Program.
“Our mission is to catalyze the technology revolution in Africa. We must build capacity in key skills that will add value to the digital economy and position Africa as the next sought-after hub for technology in the world. To achieve this vision, we need industry partners whose vision is aligned with ours,” said Ada Labs CEO, John Kamara.
“The Family Group Foundation is a great partner for us since they understand that to get Kenya to participate fully in the opportunities that the 4th Industrial Revolution presents, we must invest in building the right talent. We launched our capacity building programs last year, and we are happy to welcome the Family Group Foundation as a strategic partner in the second cohorts for Animation, Artificial Intelligence and Software Development training programs,” he concluded.
The Animation training, which will kick off the training, will be managed by mentors with a wealth of knowledge and experience in their own right from across the world including Dean Lyon – Director at Mana Animation, Jack Giarraputo – Formerly of Happy Madison Productions and Kevin Sharpley – CEO of Kijik Multimedia Inc. The mentors will work closely with the students, teaching, guiding and offering hands-on experience, as the students take on an exciting learning journey.
